Clear rulesNo mystery maths
Here is exactly how votes become a published ranking, including what we publish and what we keep private.
By submitting a vote, you agree to these rules and confirm that the information you provide is truthful to the best of your knowledge. You must be able to submit the comment in your own right and it must not contain unlawful, abusive or confidential material.
What are the People’s Choice Coffee Awards?
A coffee award decided entirely by public voting, with one winner named each month. PCCA is created and operated by FLTR Magazine. There are no judges or industry panels.
Which coffee shops can receive votes?
Any operating coffee shop, in any city or country, may receive votes. A shop does not need to register, pay an entry fee or be described as a specialty coffee shop.
How does the process work?
A voter names a coffee shop and explains why it deserves support. PCCA verifies the votes, calculates the ranking and publishes the recognised shops. The shop ranked first is the winner, with one winner named each month.
How is the published ranking calculated?
Coffee shops are ranked by their total number of valid votes in the competition. The number of places published depends on participation. The shop ranked first is the winner.
What happens if two shops have the same number of votes?
The shop whose earliest valid vote was received first is ranked higher. This tie-break applies wherever two or more shops finish with the same valid vote total.
Will you publish how many votes a coffee shop received?
No. PCCA publishes the ranking only. Individual vote totals, percentages and raw voter comments are not made public.
What makes a vote valid?
A vote must contain the requested coffee-shop information and a genuine comment of no more than 50 words. PCCA may combine obvious spelling or handle variations and may reject duplicate, automated, manipulated, abusive, incomplete or otherwise suspicious entries.
Can coffee shops campaign for votes?
Yes. Coffee shops may encourage their communities to participate using truthful communications and the official participation kit. Purchasing votes, using bots, offering rewards in exchange for votes or misleading people about a result is prohibited.
What do recognised coffee shops receive?
Each coffee shop included in the published ranking is contacted directly and receives official media assets showing its place. The first-ranked shop receives winner assets. Participation assets available publicly do not indicate a ranking or win.
Are comments shared with coffee shops?
No. Comments are collected to establish that a vote is genuine and to understand broad themes. They are not published verbatim or supplied to coffee shops as raw responses. PCCA may report themes in aggregate without identifying individual voters.
Can results be changed?
PCCA may correct a ranking if an error, duplicate set, manipulation or ineligible activity is discovered. FLTR Magazine’s reasonable decision on vote validity, consolidation and rankings is final.
Administration
PCCA may pause or cancel a competition where circumstances outside its reasonable control make a fair result impossible. These rules may be updated for future competitions. Material changes will appear on this page.
